The JUPITER™ System is next generation very small aperture terminal (VSAT) platform from Hughes for broadband services over both high-throughput and conventional satellites. Featuring a flexible and robust gateway architecture with lights-out operation, enhanced IPoS air interface for bandwidth efficiency and performance, and high-throughput terminals, JUPITER enables operators to achieve the highest possible capacity and efficiency for any satellite broadband implementation. The foundational technology is the powerful JUPITER System on a Chip (SoC), a custom–designed VLSI processor employing a multi-core architecture and enabling 200 Mbps of throughput on every terminal within the JUPITER family.
As a result, operators of both HTS and conventional satellite networks can support the widest range of applications across all market sectors—from high-speed Internet access, to distance learning and digital signage/media solutions, to the most demanding enterprise and government networking solutions where strong security and QoS capabilities are paramount.
JUPITER was named the 2014 Technology Innovation of the Year at one of the satellite industry’s leading conferences, VSAT Global 2014, which also recognized that it enhances the delivery of satellite services to the wider community and evolves the industry beyond its current limits.
Every JUPITER terminal runs on the advanced JUPITER System on a Chip (SoC). An industry first, custom designed ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) with a multi-core architecture that enables every remote terminal to achieve 200 Mbps throughput.
The core of every remote terminal is the JUPITER System on a Chip (SoC), a custom-built ASIC featuring a multicore processor, which is the key engine of performance for terminals. Powered by the JUPITER SoC, every HT remote terminal is able to deliver throughputs in excess of 200 Mbps. The HT remotes are designed to support high‐bandwidth links with QoS features along with advanced bandwidth management techniques. The JUPITER HT remotes perform a variety of functions that enable a superior user experience including TCP PEP, HTTP Web page acceleration, and Domain Name Server (DNS) caching, to optimize user-perceived response time. With integrated IP features including NAT/NAPT, DHCP, RIPv1, RIPv2, BGP, and DNS server/ relay functionality, combined with TCP acceleration, the HT terminals are the ideal platform to enable high‐performance IP connectivity for a variety of applications including cellular backhaul, MPLS extension services, virtual leased‐line services, and other high‐bandwidth solutions.
